Childbirth Class 1: Understanding Pregnancy

Well last night was the first pregnancy class.
First of all for anyone who likes childbirth classes...that is up to you these are just my random opinions.
My first thought was total and complete boredom. The lady teaching has had five children and felt the need to describe each one for about 5 minutes. Seriously. So that was pretty much the first half hour. Also...the way she talked reminded me of a yoga teacher. (I don't do yoga it was just very...calming-ish) So boredom was first.
Then she proceeded to explain that this was "Prepared" not "Natural" pregnancy...my sister opted twice for having natural births while in Europe and the fact that she was saying (which she did by the way) that if someone has natural birth they are not having a prepared birth made me MAD! I almost raised my hand to tell her about my sissy and that she needed to rethink her thoughts on natural not being as prepared as "prepared"
So following my boredom I got ticked off.
Then she said there are no successes or failures in this class...which may be true but I also HATE both/and statements. Oy...so then I was bored, mad and just plain annoyed which is probably why I took a rather grim outlook on the class.
My notes were as follows:
  1. "pain, pain, pain!" The reason for this was because she said they will not use the word pain in the class because she does not want us to associate labor with pain...she prefers contractions.
  2. "Watch Jurassic Park and Twister" This was because she told us we needed to distract ourselves from the contractions by proper breathing...I decided a suspenseful movie mighty work too...hehe
  3. "Breathe deeply-don't have asthma attacks." That is based on Robert but I will expound on that in a minute.
  4. "Prepare for alien baby!" So they showed a series of pictures to depict what the baby being born goes through and how it's skull may be temporarily disproportionate...however the picture they showed look just like the Crystal skulls in the Indiana Jones movie...me and Robert were trying hard to hold in the laughter.

Then we watched a movie about what to expect and then we had breathing exercises. That part was actually kinda fun...everyone found their little mat and your coach had to help you and breath along with you. That was amusing...see we are supposed to take these deep, deep breaths and Robert had to pretend to take them because if actually does take them he starts coughing. It's not really funny but kinda...=)

Well that was pretty much the first night. Hopefully I won't be as cynical next week...
